June gloom is coming in early and compared to how beautiful it has been, this gloomy cold weather is a bit of a downer, but we still manage to have fun on the beach.

Memorial Day morning started in La Jolla. We made ourselves a nice big breakfast and then headed down to the beach. Josh Konold’s whole family spends Memorial Day at the beach starting early with breakfast burritos. Since we were in La Jolla we headed to where they set up north of the pier to hang out for the morning, tire the boys out and play before we go to Corona for our own family gathering.

Timmy’s 5th Annual Surf Contest in celebration of Timmy’s life was another great success. Norm was still in Mammoth but Teri and the boys went up to Riviera to join in on the fun.

We were lucky enough to get two visits from the Rockoffs while they were in San Diego. Our second visit was at my parents beach house in La Jolla.
Family life is full of major and minor crises -- the ups and downs of health, success and failure in career, marriage, and divorce -- and all kinds of characters. It is tied to places and events and histories. With all of these felt details, life etches itself into memory and personality. It's difficult to imagine anything more nourishing to the soul.
