My visiting teacher graciously offered (and wanted ) to throw me a baby shower and after dragging my feet for a few weeks, I agreed. Not only did I survive, but I had a great time. It was at 10am on a Tuesday so all the mother’s brought the children that they had home from school and the kids played while the adults chatted for an hour and a half. Jaxon had a great time playing with his friends, Tyler warmed up after a little bit and wandered around and I got to chat with really cool people outside of the church setting. Plus, Jess came too so I had reinforcements at any moment which is always a good feeling.

Family life is full of major and minor crises -- the ups and downs of health, success and failure in career, marriage, and divorce -- and all kinds of characters. It is tied to places and events and histories. With all of these felt details, life etches itself into memory and personality. It's difficult to imagine anything more nourishing to the soul.
